Holiday Travel Tips for RVers in Arkansas

Traveling for the holidays can be stressful, especially if you’re at the mercy of an airline. It can be expensive too, if you end up having to pay for transportation and a place to stay and stressful to budget. Not everyone’s family has a spare room, and even if they do, you may prefer to have a little privacy!

Renting an RV when visiting family in Arkansas is the way to go. You can travel at your own pace and save a little money in the process!

However, traveling during the holidays is very different than just traveling for fun. Here are a few tips that will help you get the most enjoyment out of your holiday RV trip in Arkansas.

Make Sure Your Rig Is Winterized

It is extremely important to make sure that your rig is winterized if you’ll be traveling for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years. That includes winterizing the water systems so your pipes and tanks don’t freeze. You should also fill up on winter formulas when it comes to other fluids, like windshield wiper fluid.

If you’re renting an RV, don’t be afraid to ask the owner what they have done to winterize the vehicle. You can also ask how long they have been RVers. If they have been doing it for years, you can feel confident that they know how to winterize the RV properly.

Bring Along the Right Accessories

If you’re traveling for a holiday, you don’t want to spend your time at the store picking up last-minute items you didn’t know you needed. Make sure you think ahead and pack accordingly.

If you’re traveling in the winter, that might mean a small space heater, hand warmers, and a humidifier. If you’re traveling for the 4th of July or Labor Day, you’ll want to bring along handheld fans and a dehumidifier.

Make Your Reservation Early

RV parks can fill up just like hotels, especially around the holidays. If you’re planning on staying in an RV park, make sure you make your reservation as early as you can.

Summer holidays are popular with RVers, so it’s a good idea to make your reservation at least a few months in advance. When it comes to winter holidays, your main goal is to find an RV park that is still open as some close for the season.

Do Plenty of Exploring

Even if you’re visiting family, that doesn’t mean you can’t do plenty of exploring! There are tons of fun things to do in Arkansas that include:

  • Walk the Ouachita National Recreation Trail outside Little Rock
  • Learn a little history at Pea Ridge National Military Park
  • Look for wildlife on the Buffalo National River
  • Visit one of the state’s seven national parks

Holiday travel doesn’t have to be stressful! Instead of taking a plane or cramming everyone into a hotel room, stretch out your legs, take in the sights, and enjoy spending time with your family in an RV the next time a holiday rolls around.
