STRAWBERRY BREAKFAST PASTRIES

Get the family off to a bright start with a Strawberry Breakfast Pastries! This delicious treat is the perfect addition to any family breakfast time. What is more… They are simple to make and will not take long. What you will need is:

1 sheet of puff pastry

1/2 cup powdered sugar

3 tbsp whole milk

1 cup strawberry jam

1 large egg

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Start by preheating your oven to 200°C and place a baking mat and cookie sheet to one side. Then start laying out the puff pastry onto a cutting board. Then cut three rectangles – make them long. These need to be cut in half again then place the pastry onto a baking mat and leave about one inch between them.

Then take a shape knife and mark out a square around each piece of pastry. With a fork, make holes inside the square. This will allow the pastry to breathe so that it does not rise and become too big. It also keeps the filling in place.

Take the strawberry jam and start placing it inside of the square that has been cut out – this will act as the filling.

Grab your pastry brush and cover the edges of each pastry with the egg. Then place the pastry in the oven for up to 15 minutes. Keep checking and remove when they are brown.

While you wait on the pastries, you will need to prepare a glaze to drizzle over the pastries. For this, you will need to mix the milk, vanilla extract, and the powdered sugar together. You will be able to flavor the glaze with an extract of your choice such as almond, hazelnut etc…

When the pastries come out of the oven, drizzle the glaze over the pastries and allow to cool for up to 30 minutes. This will allow the filling to set and become congealed. Then you are ready to serve!
